This is a lovely video that was submitted to us by well known South African photojournalist, Eric Miller ahead of the recent Mandela Day celebrations that took place across the country on Wednesday the 18th of July 2012.
The day saw South Africans from all walks life contribute 67 minutes of their time on the day in honor of Madiba on his 94th birthday to helping fellow citizens in any way possible. Lots of exciting ideas for ways to give back came out of it and saw corporates, government as well as individuals get involved.
The video was filmed during Eric’s travels around the country and shows him stopping people at random to ask them one question, “What does Nelson Mandela mean in your life?”.
Eric himself is no stranger to transformation in South Africa, having covered much of the anti-apartheid struggle as a photographer during the 90′s. His passion for photography has seen him do extensive traveling in the country as well as other parts of Africa. He has worked for the likes of Afrapix and Reuters and has had his work published in Time Magazine and the New York Times as well as a host of other top local and international publications.
