Welcome to UNAIDS Science now and to the 6th issue of HIV this month 2014!
This month, you might be interested in a policy forum article on HIV treatment-as-prevention research at a crossroads by Till Barnighausen, Nir Eyal and Daniel Wikler in PLOS Medicine. It talks about how the WHO 2013 Treatment Guidelines renders ongoing TasP trials in sub-Saharan Africa unethical in their original designs, and starts the discussion.
HIV infection: epidemiology, pathogenesis, treatment and prevention is also a useful seminar article in the Lancet written by Gary Maartens, Connie Celum and Sharon Lewin. It provides comprehensive HIV information – from where the HIV epidemic arose from, how HIV is a major contributor to the global burden of disease, pathogenesis, transmission, antiretroviral therapy, potential cure, and prevention of transmission from mother to child, prevention of sexual transmission and the work on vaccines.
With excitement building for the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, we wish you productive preparatory meetings and fruitful events. UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe will be among the high level speakers.
Enjoy this issue!
