The Western Cape government has adopted the reduction of red tape as a critical component to accelerating economic growth and job creation. One of the Department’s initiatives is the Red Tape Challenge Competition aims to assess the extent to which WCG Municipalities and WCG Provincial Departmental employees understand red tape and how to reduce it, to conduct a WCG Municipal and WCG department-wide competition highlighting red tape reduction efforts, and to award one municipality and three employees for best practice.
The Department appointed Creative Consulting and Development Works (CC&DW) to implement the red tape challenge in two consecutive years, in 2014/15 and 2015/16.
The Red Tape Competition Challenge run smoothly and successfully; this can be seen when looking at the number of entries, which multiplied in 2015/16 compared to 2014/15. The learnings from the running and management of the different aspects of the competition were shared with the client, which will strengthen the completion in future editions.
