Project: PGWC 2010 Project Official Website

Client: Provincial Government of the Western Cape (PGWC)
Duration: June 2008 – June 2009

The 2010 FIFA World Cup™ is a celebration of what South Africa and the African continent can achieve through the power of soccer. It is not only an opportunity for South Africa to celebrate what it has to offer in terms of its rich diversity; it is also a chance for our developing nation to create opportunities for South Africans and the economy.

The opportunities presented by the World Cup are showcased on the Provincial Government of the Western Cape (PGWC) 2010 Project Office Website. Creative Consulting & Development Works had the opportunity to apply its creativity and innovation to the research, writing, design and content management of the site.

With experience in providing research, writing and communications support to the development sector, the Creative Consulting & Development Works team comprised of researchers and writers who conducted desktop research, developed content and offered creative input on the design. Content for the website was generated through a series of brainstorm sessions.  Sourcing information from online resources and documents, the concept for the website was developed.

The team ensured that the content and design of the website were in line with the objectives outlined by PGWC, which was to create a site that was engaging, targeting a wide audience made up of locals and internationals alike. The content and design had to be vibrant, informative and holistic, showcasing soccer events and development programmes whose legacies will extend beyond 2010 and promoting awareness about our environment.

“We surprised ourselves. Generating content for the website through research and writing gave us the opportunity to get excited about 2010. The programmes that have been established that look beyond the soccer stadiums highlight soccer as a mode of development for South Africa’s economy. I felt proud.” (Charlene Yared-West, Copywriter, Creative Consulting & Development Works)
