Client: Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Provincial Government of the Western Cape
Duration: March – November 2009
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) delivers many useful services to the people of the Western Cape in the areas of arts, culture, heritage, sports and recreation. However, its website had to be updated to reflect this.
Creative Consulting & Development Works did a thorough analysis of the old website hosted on the Government’s Cape Gateway portal, and researched other sports and culture websites.
A phased approach to the revamp was devised. Phase one involved conceptualising and developing a new sitemap.
In the second phase Creative Consulting & Development Works conducted interviews with representatives from the various components DCAS is made up of.
Information regarding each component’s services, projects, facilities, publications, events and contact details were gathered. Creative Consulting & Development Works wrote the content for the website in a light, engaging tone to be accessible to all members of the public.
Also in the second phase, a home page was designed for each component. Creative Consulting & Development Works facilitated a brainstorming session with DCAS to come up with a creative brief and managed the design process. DCAS’s own photos form the focal point in these designs, reflecting the diversity, creativity and vibrancy, which is the essence of the department.
In the third phase the content was uploaded to the BEE content management system, which is used to update web pages on the Cape Gateway portal. A master content list, of everything that was uploaded, was handed over to DCAS, to enable them to maintain the site on an ongoing basis.
