Project: Communications support to NADCAO

Client: National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices
Duration: September 2009

The community advice office sector in South Africa has experienced several difficult years.  A formal structure, proper communication among the 230 advice offices, and recognition and support of their important function of providing access to justice for the poor, was lacking.

However, the National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices (NADCAO) has a vision for 2013, that community advice offices will be recognised and operate as permanent sustainable institutions by 2013. NADCAO realised that effective communication would play an important role in achieving this goal, and contracted Creative Consulting & Development Works for communications support.

To get the support of civil society, funders, donors and government for NADCAO’s Vision 2013, Creative Consulting & Development Works conceptualised and produced a slide show presentation. The presentation explains the Vision and NADCAO’s sector development model, emphasising the value of such an institutionalisation and consolidation of the sector.

In order to improve communication in the sector, keep stakeholders informed about key developments and to give a voice to the advice offices, Creative Consulting & Development Works conceptualised, designed and produced a printed, as well as an electronic newsletter for NADCAO. Creative Consulting & Development Works interviewed community-based paralegals, wrote and edited the stories for the newsletter. The stories of people on the ground are told. Photos were chosen and used in the newsletter to make the sector come alive on paper. Design elements were used to support this and to present the information in an interesting way.
